Dr. Doug Anderson is the Director of Research for the FPRF, responsible for setting the research priorities, vetting and approving proposals, and monitoring the progress of each of our novel and unique research projects. He is the former Executive Director of the McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Florida, and is currently Eminent Scholar Professor and Chairman Emeritus of Neuroscience at U of F College of Medicine. He is known for his pioneering research that led to the nation’s first implantation of human embryonic nerve tissue in eight patients with a specific complication of spinal cord injury. He also contributed significantly to the development of the first frontline medication for acute spinal cord injury. A graduate of Michigan State University, Dr. Anderson was selected to be a senior research career scientist with the Department of Veterans Affairs, in addition to serving 10 years as Chairman of the Department of Neuroscience at the UFCOM.
